For UK learners
Venepuncture course (UK) — online theory
An online venepuncture theory course written for UK learners, in British English, built on published WHO phlebotomy guidance. Ten self-paced modules cover the knowledge behind a safe blood draw, each with a quiz and extra practice, ending in a verifiable certificate. Module 1 is free, so you can judge the teaching before you pay anything.
Theory that travels with you
“Venepuncture” and “phlebotomy” describe the same thing — drawing blood from a vein — and this course teaches the theory of doing it safely: patient identification, infection prevention, vein anatomy and selection at the antecubital fossa, the order of draw, additive chemistry, specimen handling, and the complications to recognise and manage. It is self-paced and entirely online, so you can study from anywhere in the UK at your own pace.
What this is — and what it is not
This is an online theory course. It is honest about its limits: it is not an accredited UK qualification, it is not endorsed by the NHS or any regulator, and it does not include supervised hands-on practice on real patients. Those things are earned in a clinical setting. What this course does is teach the underpinning knowledge thoroughly, so that the practical training you do alongside or afterwards is faster and safer.
Aligned to WHO guidance
The content is built on the World Health Organization’s published best-practice guidance for drawing blood — an international, freely-published standard — rather than one instructor’s habits. You can read how the course is sourced and built on the methodology page.
One price, paid once
The full ten-module course and the verifiable certificate cost a single one-time £10 — no subscription, no hidden charge. Start the free first module, and continue only if it is right for you.
Begin with Module 1 free, or try the free practice questions and the free guides and glossary. The full course and certificate are a one-time £10.
